Canterbury Cathedral

Project Scope: Preserving Canterbury Cathedral

Project Industry: Commercial, Extension/Renovation

Redeveloping Canterbury Cathedral.

Canterbury Cathedral, one of the most famous and historically significant structures in the UK, was originally built in 597 AD by St. Augustine.

In 2016, planning permission was granted to build a new Visitor Centre as part of the £25 million redevelopment project known as The Canterbury Journey. The development was introduced to improve accessibility, the visitor experience, and to protect and preserve the structure of the cathedral.

The Visitor Centre officially opened in 2020. It features a gift shop, exhibition space, visitor information, and a viewing gallery overlooking the cathedral.

Planning restrictions were understandably strict, and all changes had to be carried out with subtlety and sensitivity. We supplied our Cambridge Buff and Reclamation Cambridge Buff handmade bricks, which were the perfect choice to blend seamlessly within the listed area.
